The Estrela Mountain Dog is a phenomenal working breed, but like any working dog breed it's not the right breed for every environment. It's always best to research a breed and a dog breeder before committing to the breed.
We do our best to educate our clients prior to matching them with a puppy (let's be honest, it makes everyone's life so much easier) so start by reading the FAQ and hopefully you will find answers to questions you might have about our Estrela Mountain Dog puppies and the breed as a whole.

Our Current Puppy Price: $3,500. The average Estrela Mountain Dog Puppy Price ranges from: $1500 – $5000. How do I find an Estrela Mountain Dog Puppy? You can research private, reputable breeders, or visit Portugal and adopt one from a local rescue shelter. Estrela Mountain Dog's prices can be in the range of $1000-$5000 if you buy one from a reputed breeder, and factor in the cost of transport.

2. Reach out to us via phone so we can follow up on your application, and talk in person.
3. Provide a Veterinarian Reference for us to follow up with.
After steps 1-3 are a match, we will accept a NON-REFUNDABLE Waitlist Fee of $500 ( applied to final price ). This shows your commitment to one of our Future EMD Puppies. When a litter is born we will match you to your puppy based on temperament testing.
Short Answer: No.
Long Answer:
Our puppies are both temperament and working aptitude evaluated by us, and an independent, professional litter evaluator between 7 and 8 weeks old.
Based on these scores, we match the individual puppies to the homes where they will be happiest in.
This makes your life so much easier, because you will be getting a puppy most apt to succeed in your family! Your sex and color preferences are noted, but not guaranteed.
There are no standard canine health tests available for young puppies. We take our breed health and the future health of our puppies very seriously. All of our puppies come with a bill of health from our veterinarian, their first 5-way vaccine, and an up to date deworming protocol.
We guarantee in our sale agreement that our puppies are free from life-threatening congenital or hereditary defects, to the best of our knowledge.
No. We do not currently place Estrela Mountain Dog littermates in any situation other then very experienced programs that we personally are familiar with and work with.
Your puppy needs to bond with you and receive individual training. We recommend adding another Estrela approx. 2 years later if you wish.
1. Our Estrela Mountain dog companion puppies go home at 8 weeks of age.
2. Our farm and guardian work puppies go home between 8-10 weeks of age.
3. Our working LGD prospect puppies go home between 10-12 weeks of age.
These ages are based on our discretion and give your puppy the optimal life skills, that will empower your dog to succeed at his desired role.
Yes, Air Cargo Transport is available for our puppies. In cabin transport is not available, Your puppy will not fit into the approved carrier at 8 weeks old.

Puppy owner is responsible for a health flight certificate cost, all ticket costs, additional airline required dog crate purchase and transport to airport fee.
Yes! We will take back any of our puppies and are committed to their welfare for life. In the unlikely event that you would no longer be able to care for or provide a home for one of our dogs, we want them back! We will not refund purchase price for buyer remorse. We care and love each of our dogs and puppies as much as you do. And we refuse to see them end up in situations that they never deserve. All of our dogs, will always have a home with us, if they need it!
Yes! We will continue to offer breed and training support throughout the lifetime of our dogs. We help admin several Estrela Mountain Dog Support and Training groups with other experienced, breed experts that can fill in if we are ever unable to.
We want you to have an amazing life with your new best friend, and are here for you through all of it!

Our dogs require a purpose, and we are dedicated to finding them homes where they are cared for and fulfilled. This could be as a herd guardian with a hands- on gentle shepherd, a family companion home with secure fence and space, as a therapy prospect etc. Many situations can provide a life-long purpose for a Serra da Estrela to watch over and protect the people it loves. We will not be placing any dogs in unsecure or exploitive environments. We want them to be cared for, respected and most of all Loved appropriately.

How do we help? We care about every part of the process: Our Estrela puppy litters are planned from complimentary adults with correct structure and temperament. We carefully evaluate our pups temperaments while they grow, and we have a professional litter evaluator come in to score our puppies. Using this info we can confidently match our pups personalities with the home they belong in! This scientific process sets our pups and their families up for proven success.
